Our Son, the Genius

Time:  10:47 PM, the other night.

Place:  Our bedroom.

Jack-Evan, who is now a hearty 6 months old, is lying between his father and I, enjoying some cuddling & play time before lights out.

As I’m finishing up the story book I’m reading, he turns his little head towards me and says MumMum – then immediately turns his head the other way towards Kevin and says, just as clearly, DaDa

It wasn’t the first time he had uttered those syllables, but it was the first time he had used them together, with both in context.

So now I take this proud mommy moment to gloat.
:-D

My First Halloween

Trick o' Treating 10-31 by you.

Once upon a time, I went trick or treating with my mom and dad.

Trick o' Treating 10-31 by you.

I was a lion, Dad was a yankee farmer, and mom was a southern country girl.

Since I can’t eat candy yet…

…my Grammy gave me some baby food in my goodie bag!

Next we treated my Abuella (Daddy’s birth mom).

Then we went to Aunt Mae’s house.
(She is my Grammy’s sister)

She’s one of *those* Aunts who is always kissing my chubby cheeks.

We had a lot of fun visiting!

And finally, we made our way over to cousin Tammy’s house…

where we saw Willy Wonka…

…Bat Woman…

…and a really funny guy with yummy hair.
(Mom says he’s my cousin.  I didn’t want to believe her.)

After roasting some marshmellows

We said goodbye to everyone

And went back to my Grammy and Papa’s house
for the rest of the evening.

The End.

P.S.  Please tell mommy to stop eating my candy.
Thanks, Love, Jack-Evan

We’ve Got to Save the Honey Bees

(Voiced by 5 month old Jack-Evan, typed by Mommy)

100_2306 by you.

Hello.  Jack-Evan here with an urgent message.

100_2980 by you.

In my quest to save the ducks,
I have stumbled upon an even more important mission.

100_2959 by you.

We must now work very hard to save the Bees, for I have just learned that
they lead a very hard life behind a small piece of glass,
slaving away to make honey for humans.

100_2947 by you.

Although she eats it herself, Mommy says I can’t have honey.
She also says I can’t have a bee.
How can she condone bee slavery?

100_2967 by you.

My Papa won’t let bees stay in his bathtub with the rescued ducks.
So I have made them a new home to live in.
Please go out and rescue a honey bee tomorrow.

100_2964 by you.

It will make me very happy.  Thank you.

(P.S.  Do not tell mommy)

The End. :)

We have movement, oh yes…yes we do.

Just yesterday, Jack-Evan – who will be 6 months on November 4th – learned how to put both of his legs under his body at the same time.  You know, in that famous crawling position that all babies are known for.

And just like that, today it seems like a lightbulb has turned on in his little baby head that says “Time to Move!!”.  He is currently on our living room rug, scooting around, testing the bounderies of his new found freedom.

Right now he is doing sort of a caterpillar motion, bringing his knees under him and then using his elbows to propel forward.  And he is beyond excited.

It’s so unreal how much babies learn in just the space of a few hours.  At the pace he’s going, I wager that within a week he’ll be actually crawling.

And then the real fun will start….

Things I Never Thought I Would Say #23

“Kevin, come here, you have GOT to see the color of this poop.”

Mommy told me I should not be eating my toes.

She says although most humans have their foot
in their mouths during adulthood,
she doesn’t want me starting this early.

Happy Babyween!

Today we had (yet another) Sears photo session at noon.

Kevin is off on Fridays, so it’s always nice to having him accompany me on these trips!  Plus it means that we get to have an excursion to the mall food court afterwards.  And, since Jack-Evan usually passes out after his pictures are taken, we get some quality adult time.

Sitting there across from my beloved husband, in the loud, bustling food court, scarfing down a 3-cheese steak footlong, snarfing bacon & cheese fries, with a sleeping baby in the stroller beside us, we can almost pretend we’re on a most exquisite date.

Almost.

But even with those romantic possibilities on the horizon, I came close to cancelling our photo session today.  As I was changing Jack’s diaper this morning, 5,783 reasons why we should NOT go across town to the mall today zipped randomly through my mind.

Fortunately, I talked myself out of talking myself out of it though.  I mean, this is Jack’s first ever, first-ever-halloween.  He’s going to be a lion.  If I don’t drop everything and capture the moments on film (er..pixels??), I’ll regret it later.  He’ll never have a second chance to have a first moment, right?  He’ll only be a baby once.

At least, that’s how I rationalize my obsession with photographing my kid.  All moms need some sort of rational thought stream, or we’d go nuts with our shenanigans.

For what it’s worth, I ended up very happy that we did keep our appointment.  :)
