This post is part of the Little Jack’s Corner “Child of the 80s Flashback” post series. Each post in the series features great television for kids that was shown in the 1980s (when I was a child). Featured shows come from a variety of stations, including PBS, Nickelodeon, and Disney. Be sure to come back tomorrow night at 8 pm for another episode of great ’80s television nostalgia!
Today’s show features “Today’s Special”. It was one of Nickelodeon’s first shows! A Canadian made series, it featured a live person / puppet mixed cast that included Jody, Jeff (the Manequin), Sam (a puppet security guard), and a rhyming (puppet) mouse named Muffy. Jody would come to the department store at night, and put Jeff’s magical hat on to make him “come alive” and they, along with Sam and Muffy, would go on adventures in the store. It was filled with a whollllleeee lot of learnin’ for the preschool age set as well as moral issues (two things today’s shows sorely lacked).
