Unwet Wet Wipes (or…Poo on Pampers!)

As you can imagine, with our first baby due in 3 weeks, Kevin and I have spent the past 9 months stocking up on diapers and baby wipes (the one thing that very few people seem to want to give as gifts).

Well, tonight, I needed a wipe to clean the shelves and realized I had run out of my handy dandy clorox wipes.  So, I had the most brilliant idea to open up a box of pampers baby wipes (something I’ve been dying to do anyway because I wanted to smell them..lol) and use one to wipe the shelves off.

And would you believe that the thing was almost dry?  My first thought, literally, was “How on earth is this flimsy, dry thing gonna clean my son’s poop???”.

I’m hoping against hope that I’ve just gotten ahold of one rotten package because we have a pampers box with a 1000 wipe refill package stored in our utility room.

Has anyone else ever experienced this??  It’s been about 14 years since I’ve touched a real life baby wipe so I don’t even remember how they’re supposed to feel.  But letmetellyou, the thing in my hand tonight that was masquerading around as a baby wipe was pathetic.   I could see myself using 10 of them at one changing and still not get Jack clean.

Kinda makes me wonder if I should just be prepared to use rags instead.

  1. Oh, you are so cute and your baby’s blog is precious. What a gift!

As for baby wipes-first of all, you can NEVER have too many. I use them for 1001 things around here.

And yes, occasionally, they dry out. It is a sad wipe tragedy. I actually wrote an entire ode to wipes. I’ve got 3 kids. Wipes are big at my house.

  2. I had the same problem when I opened my Pampers wipes. We have a large stock of Huggies and they were fine. I don’t know what the deal is with the pampers….but I do like their diapers much better ;)

  3. Hey Lisa,
I dont think those wipes are suppose to be dry, you may have a bad batch. They are suppose to be moist to wipe the baby’s bottom. If not there would be a lot of bad things left behind LOL. Howare you doing? Not o much longer to go (smile) let me know whats going on.
    Miss talking take care.

  4. The wipes are supposed to be moist, but what I’ve found it that the ones on top tend to dry out while the ones on the bottom of the package are sopping wet. Try inverting the package. Or you can re-wet them with a little bit of water.

Thanks for stopping by my WFMW post! Congrats on your pending arrival – how exciting! Our little one will be 1 on May 31st, so May is a very good month!

    Blessings to you and yours!

  5. Pampers baby wipes are not supposed to be DRY..they are supposed to be moist ..I mostly use Huggies..they are a Very Good Brand…But Pampers are good too…I dont know…It may not be a good Pack..but you can always put it under a drip of water and moisten it yourself to make sure it is moist enough to clean little Jack… Anyway, how are you feeling? I know your probably miserable! Just think..”ITS ALMOST OVER” :-) Write me and let me know how your doing…Talk to you later..

    Much Love,
    Missy

  6. Thanks yall! haha…I’m keepin’ my fingers crossed that I have, indeed, gotten ahold of a bad pack. :-)

Missy & Heather – I think I’ll try letting water drip on them like you suggested.. :)

  7. I havn’t had that happen. You could probabl take them back from where you got them and exchange them. The best place to buy wipes and diapers is costco. I spent $15 for 800 wipes. And $30 for over 200 diapers :) And soooo excited for you and your little arrival!

  8. I’ve had that happen before. It’s funny, because in my opinion Pampers are usually too wet. They are definitely more so than Huggies which are the best. But these days I usually buy store brand – for #3, a wipe is a wipe. ;)

The suggestion for letting the box sit upside down is a great one, if you ever find the ones on top are dryer than the ones on bottom. I’ve done that. You can also add a small amount of water to the stack of dry wipes, let them sit and soak up the new water. I’ve done that before, too. Also, when I’ve run out of wipes I’ve just used washcloths. Whatever works. :P

  9. Just want to add that your other posters are right, Huggies are the best wipes. I’ve been a nanny for several years and now am on my own baby–#2 is coming soon, and I would use Huggies over other brands any day. They are thicker and cushier. Love the Pampers diapers, love the Huggies wipes. The perfectionist in me wants to use the same brand for both, but the quality of the wipes wins me over. And I’ve also found that as the kids get older, depending on their build, the Huggies diapers work well. I love Pampers for the liner that’s in them, esp. for breastfed babies’ poop, but our son is in Huggies now simply because they fit him better. It all depends on your baby’s build. Pampers diaps seems to be longer and narrow or something. You’ll figure out what you like, but definately take the dry wipes back and get some good ones!

  10. Hello im not sure if your still reading about your wipes feasco but i believe if you call pampers and tell them they will more than likely give you coupons for free and might even send a free package i like pampers wipes better because they dont leave little fussies behind on beavers or dongs. I always buy the refill packs of wipes and not the tubs thanks for reading
