Family Goofiness…What Fun!

I love my family…. I really do!

There are no other people on earth that can make me laugh like they can.  We always joke that our family tree is full of nuts. :)   With family, you can be comfortable to be yourself and say things you wouldn’t normally say to anyone else.  And, letmetellyou, it’s amazing at the stuff that comes out of one’s mouth when you are with close family.

Here are some of the one liners that we’ve kept record of over the years.   Please be aware that we are not a family of blondes, either!

From my Mom:

We were driving parallel to the beach one day on family vacation.  My mom was serenely watching the ships far out on the ocean’s horizon when she tilted her head and pondered “Hey, how do those ships know where the horizon is?”.

One day, when I was in Jr. High, a friend of mine who was born in the Virgin Islands was spending the night at our house.  We were sitting at the dinner table discussiong how her family came to the USA when my mom innocently asked, “How did you get here?  Did you guys ride the bus?”.    To this day we still joke that we’re going to go to the Bahamas one day by Greyhound. :)

 From my Aunt Mae:

We were at the movie theaters last night watching the new Chipmunks movie.  A scenic piece showing a downtown street – with the famous Hollywood sign and green hill in the background – flashed upon the screen for a few seconds.   Aunt Mae suddenly burst out with “Ohhhh that is so pretty…. I wonder where it was filmed??”.   She was serious as pie.  We all laughed uncontrollably for the next few minutes. :)

From my (New York) husband, Kevin:

While we were engaged he was still trying to learn the area as he’d only been in SC for a year or so.   One day he was talking about going to a USC game…..a home game, of course!  Where were they playing?   The Bruce Willis Stadium

We were talking with my parents one day and got into the deep subject of death.  I was trying to console my father’s fears about turning 60 when Kevin piped up and said “Yeh, Jack, nothin’ can’t happen to you!  We don’t want Cill to be a Willow!”.

So, those are just a few of the stop-and-make-you-think-a-moment one liners my family has come up with.  We have tons more in our memory banks and one of my favorite family things is when a lot of family get together and someone brings up the silliness that has occured over the years.  It’s a lot of great fun and it reminds you that those people we truly love are not perfect – so why should you try to be perfect yourself?

I can’t wait to watch my own son grow up and record all of those tiny “funny moments” when he does something cute, rib-tickling, or (while we’re in a store somewhere) downright embarrassing!  It’s going to be great.  :-D
